What is Potassium Sorbate?
Our Potassium Sorbate is a very high quality crystalline salt and is the potassium salt of sorbic acid. Its main use is the inhibition of the growth of moulds, yeasts and microbes. It increases the shelf life of food products. It is used in many foods: cheese, soft drinks / fruit, cold cuts, dried fruit, yogurt, wine and baked goods. Potassium Sorbate killing yeasts and molds is not good for baking or baking products that use yeast. Potassium Sorbate is used in wine producing sorbic acid which prevents the surviving yeast from multiplying once the final decanting of the wine is completed. It is used to prevent the refermentation of ciders and juices, it is also used in pesto and pastry as a preservative.
